Dylix - I think the 2.8 70-200 IS goes for $1650-$1700.

Oh - I see what you mean. It's like twice the price of the existing 70-200 f4. I'd love to try it.

A couple MUA's show up and we all trade images at the end of the weekend to better our portfolios. Mark Schmude did an excellent make-up job on Jean and Mandie... and Mandie was tearing cuz she had something in her eye.... I told her not to clean it out cuz it looked good! LOL I'm a bastard sometimes. :O

What lighting did you use for this Gib? The catch-lites are neat.
I've toyed with the idea of making a gobo of some sort on one light specifically for odd-shaped catchlites (hearts, stars, etc)... Doable?

Shop Ritz... They want $2,000 for the f2.8 IS... Of course, they do suck, but still...

I think the 70-200 f4 L IS would be nice. I had thought that the f2.8 would be nice, but I really wouldn't use the wide aperture, just the IS.

A good rough estimate is:
70-200mm f4 L = $600
70-200mm f4 L IS = $1200
70-200mm f2.8 L = $1200
70-200mm f2.8 L IS = $1600

Really for the mid-range it will come to a choice between 2.8 and IS for about the same price.

I agree about the 50mm f1.2 though. I had heard it was coming, so I was considering getting one (rather than the 1.4 down the line) until I saw the price today. It would still be one amazing lens I'm sure... And FAST, so fast!

If someone would post a picture of one of these lenses it would fill TPBM request. :)

Alex - me two. That's why I don't have a GF! LOL

Athena - I am really cheap and made a "light ring" of sorts. I duct taped three 4' flourescent shoplights together in a triangle and hung it by a chain from a ceiling joist. Then I shot through the middle of it (with a lens hood).

If you have a focusable light then a gobo sounds like a great way to go. YOu can get creative and do whatever pattern you want and get different coverage over your subjects instead of a wash.

The 50mm 1.2 uses a HUGE 72mm filter. My current 50 uses a 55mm.

IMO get the 2.8 over IS. A faster lens will stop action an IS lens will stop camera shake.

Whoa Nelly! I want the 50mm 1.2........ but not for $1,600. Dang.

That is the one that caught my eye too. I'd like to see the charts for it... But with a price like that I may have to be content with the 1.4 for awhile. ;)

still torn between an 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM L and now 70-200mm f4 IS USM L.
I mean what if I suddenly have a gid where I need to take concert pics??? will an 70-200mm f4 IS USM L work?

I was joking. Are you pulling my leg or was there a 1.0 at some time?
