LOL - didn't even think of it! Good catch BLA.

TPBM is an odd match. (no using my picard/cow shot from last night)

IMO get the 2.8 over IS. A faster lens will stop action an IS lens will stop camera shake.

That's where the real choice comes though... It all boils down to what you shoot. For Jamie, the IS would be much better, because he does so many panning shots. For someone doing sports, the 2.8 would be great. Actually, I think it's great that they will have the two options at the similar price. It will give people that don't want to spend so much 2 good options instead of just the one.

*EDIT* But the really cool thing is that the market will be flooded with used 70-200mm f4 L lenses before too long here. Those that have wanted an L, but had trouble reaching to it, just might be able to grab it.

I was joking. Are you pulling my leg or was there a 1.0 at some time?

The 50mm f1.0 L goes for about $4000 used. It's a VERY rare lens.

Alex -

That's a toss up because the IS really is very helpful and can help you gain a couple stops (or in this case maybe 3) but I've always been a fan of bigger apertures. You can take a look at the concert photos I took for a band this summer at an outdoor gig using my 70-200 2.8 IS. www.thefreddyjonesband.com (external link) Because of the shallow depth of field and how musicians constantly move it's better IMHO to stop up to 4 or 5.6 and increase ISO a little if your camera isn't too cruel with grain at high speeds. I don't think I used the lens wide open once.

So by this logic, you'd be better off with the 4.0 IS.

Damn I talk alot. Sorry. Done.
