Finally was able to get to the zoo for the first time with my 20D. I couldn't stop taking pictures of this guy. Too bad he was behind a glass enclosure though since I had a lot of glare on most of my pictures. I guess the glass is better than the bars that they had right near the ground. I could have easily touched his head on the metal bars shot. He was laying right on the ground and I laid down right in front of him and took the picture. These are just awesome animals. Hope you enjoy.

I like #2. The bars in #1 spoil it for me - nothing wrong with the image though.

I found a posting by someone yesterday (damned if I can remember where) with a great tip about this.

Next time use a flexible rubber hood on your lens. Get the hood right up to the glass and even push in just a bit, but not all the way to the lens. The hood should be enough to stop the glare from your flash.

I tried it today with pretty good results.

Personally I love shooting the cougar at the MN Zoo... He's my favorite.

Thanks for the tip braduardo. I will definitely give that a try. I know the bars spoil the look of the snow leopard but I really like the image overall and the intensity of its stare behind the bars. Thanks again for all your comments.

Try it on the aquarium glass too... I got decent results...

Here's one from earlier today of the monkeys. The glass was just COVERED with smudges from kids (and adults) hands. Those smudges will cause killer glare, but if you are close enough you shouldn't see it.

It still gives the pictures some blur, but it's not nearly as bad as seeing a reflection of yourself instead of the critter.
