I am one seriously lucky dude... I got to go to 2 zoos in 2 days.
I actually wanted to pass on a tip I found in my hours of browsing forums here. Someone had recommended using a rubber lens hood and getting right up to the glass so that you could have some use of your pop-up flash, especially in lower light areas.
I tried it out today on some really really smudged up glass, and had pretty decent results.

I wish I could remember where I found that tip so I could give the person proper credit. It really helped out a lot. Even with the aperature wide open and 800 ISO, I still would have needed a 1/8 second shutter speed or slower. I don't even think my monopod would have worked well considering there were 8 gazillion kids underfoot.
I hope someone else is able to get some use out of that tip. I found that it also works OK for aquariums, although it can be hard to get a focus with the fish going nuts.
Does anyone else have good tips for zoo shooting?
