I have just done some experiments using an old Zeiss Ikophot taking incident light readings.
Incident readings are the preferred method to peg highlights when using transparency film ( info for newbies)
As digital cameras have similar sensor charateristics to transparency film, I thought there may be an advantage in perhaps not blowing out digital highlights using this method.
It is bright today but not full sun, but looking at the histograms using the incident light readings and manual settings, the highlight peaks seem to be better placed than when using the G6's own suggestions.
I will try again on a full sun day with bright highlights, to see if this is a help.
After all, there is not much you can do with a blown highlight, where as you can lighten shaddow areas somewhat in photoshop.
