After reading all the positive comments about the Hyperdrive unit I decioded to order one several weeks ago. Although I did read a couple of comments from people that had some issues, I thought what the heck, chances are I'll get a good one. Well now that I've received mine, I'm having several problems with it. Error 20, communication issues with my PC when trying to transfer files. I've e-mailed them several times and they have yet to get back to me with a response (other than we've received your e-mail and will try to respond within 24 hours, blah, blah, blah). Really frustrating, since I'm leaving on a three week vacation in several days and I am relying on this unit for storage.

I can't find a phone number for them so I can only communicate through e-mail, which is frustrating when they don't answer.

Has anyone else had any issues with their Hyperdrive?? What about customer support??

Ron

P.S. I was really impressed with the speed and overall build, accesories, etc.... but now - who knows, time will tell. By the way, I posted a reply in the General Chat forum then figured I get a better response posting here.

i've used my hyperdrive on about 5 computers now with no issues. Do you get the same error on multiple computers or just the 1?

Error 20 is low batteries... are your batteries charged?

I personally had an issue with the HD80 charging my batteries for the first time.. it was well up over 700 minutes (!!!!) before I pulled the plug.

I put them in another charger I have, and it's been fine since then.

Do you have another computer to plug your drive into? Have you tried using another set of batteries?

I also use my HD80 on several computers... I've never had a problem with any of them.

^^ What he said. It just needs a charge. Mine didn't have any issues charging, but I have read about a few others who have. Worst case, you can throw alkalines in there.

They do take a bit to respond, but they *do* respond.

Mine doesn't seem to be able to download more than 2 gb of data from a CF card. It works very quickly with my 2 gb Sandisk Extreme card or with the 4 gb Sandisk Extreme if I have less than 2 gb of data on it. If I go over 2 gb, it stalls before it gets to the end. I thought it might be a battery issue, so I tried using it plugged in. That didn't make any difference.

I tried contacting Hyperdrive, but have not had any response.

I got the same error when I received my HD80 several days ago but after re-charging it went by smoothly. Never have any problem since.

In addition to making sure that your batteries are properly charged... you may want to upgrade your firmware.

Version 2.1 is on the website. It's a quick and easy process.

I'll keep on recharging the batteries. So far it seems that everytime I charge the batteries it charges for over 80 minutes even though the power indicator shows full, so maybe the batteries take some time to build up a charge (even though I checked the voltage and they're reading 1.3V).

Customer support responded that I should try on another PC with an XP operating system - I still need to do this. I'm off to China on Wednesday and hopefully this unit will fucntion as designed.

Part of the problem (honestly) is that the built in charger sucks. It's been okay for me to charge in my car just to get the voltage back up, but, whenever I can, I stick the batteries in my home charger for a condition, and re-charge.

I have this: http://www.thomas-distributing.com …c801d-battery-charger.htm (external link) - Absolutely worth the price if you have more than 4 nimh batteries.

When I recharge, I leave it for the full 4 hours (240 mins). I haven't had any issues with the internal charger.
