Hiya to all,
Not to well today so tried taking a set up flower shot, I think the whole flower came out OK? but instead of craping I zoomed in for the close up which hasn't worked C&C welcome as always, back to bed I think I shoulda stayed there & waited till tomorrow.

I think your close in crop probably needed more depth of field to work, you could try focus stacking. Check LordVs tutorial on page 4 of the sticky in this section.

Thanks for your advise its most welcome, I need to learn fully what all these things like 'depth of field' mean.
The close in shot isn't a copped version of the whole flower it was taken if I remember at 12x optical plus the 4x Digital total 48 guess thats why it looks crap eh??
Just had a quick look at Brian's Tutorial, I think it'll be awhile before I can manage that stacking, not sure how that'll work one handed but I'll find a way!!

I'd recommend avoiding digital zooms, they're always crud. They work by a process called 'interpolation", which to the lay man is basically guessing the missing data and making it up and adding it to the final zoomed image. You get all sorts of nasty artifacts as well with the image happening with digital zooms. Better to stick to optical zoom and crop imho. As Lester said, you needed more DOF, but at 48x...I don't think that there would have been much anyone could have done to be honest. I haven't played with focus stacking, so can't offer much advice. Best to read Brian's sticky and maybe ask him some questions about things that you're not sure on - he's the acknowledged master of focus stacking!
