Nice work!
The tympanist looks particulary enthusiastic. ;)

Have you ever BEEN in a middle school band?

Wow...these kids look like freaking cheerleaders by comparison to my band days.

It seems that middle-school and high-school band directors don't usually teach the importance of looking like you're having fun. Too bad!

Thanks for the blanket statement about band directors. Personally, I don't teach the kids how they should look while they are actually playing. I teach them how to play music. When they stand up to take a bow, that's different. It takes focus and concentration to perform a band or orchestra instrument. I have seen thousands of middle school band and orchestra students over the years and this photograph shows the look of typical middle school students performing at a concert.

And I just noticed that in the only shot where you see a student not playing, she is smiling. Next time I am playing my tuba, I will be sure to smile with the mouthpiece on my mouth.

We won't even mention how nervous those kids probably are performing in front of everyones parents etc. Nice shots, brought back memories.

Exactly! They don't always admit it, but most of them are pretty nervous.

i remember in 7th grade, I was 1st chair euphonium on the symphonic band (likethe varsity of bands) and had a pause near the end, and the other baritone/euphonium player belts out this horrible "BWAUMDBH" in the middle of it...last song...ruined it. He blamed it on me. it was so bad.
