Do you shoot your own family members?

This is your niece and therefore, technically, you're a guest at the wedding as well. You should charge her for the wedding, but only to cover the expenses of printing (assuming you're using digital exclusively). Think of it as your wedding gift to her. You wont come out ahead financially in the end, but it's not like you're missing out on a higher-paying job. If you weren't the wedding photographer you'd probably be there as a guest anyway. Besides, think of all the free food and champagne!

IMO, for weddings I would charge for printing and any development/processing​, but otherwise tell them that the actual service of shooting the wedding is your gift to them.

We've been doing weddings for 15 yrs. + my wife has a large family - -- so this is what works for us..... we will photgraph at 3x our COG's on an out of season or on in season Friday + Sunday wedding ONLY!!! If the family wants our services on an in season Saturday date we give to them a $1000.00 gift certificate towards our packages..... Most family members opt for a Friday service. keep in focus.
