This was taken last year on my Canon P&S, and is of Marwick Head in Orkney. The tower in the background is the memorial to Kitchener who died on June 5, 1916 when the Navy vessel "Hampshire" sunk just off Marwick Head. Kitchener was the British Secretary of State for War during WW1, and is perhaps most famous for the "Your Country needs YOU" posters.

Love the colours, John and a beautiful looking spot. Must get there someday. :D

If it was intentional to keep the sky out of frame because of the P&S , it was a very clever move John.
Thats exactly what is needed here to avoid burning out the skies.
Good colours and....what a gorgeous place.

Very dramatic composition, John, and the color is outstanding.

Thanks Dimitri. I didn't deliberately keep the sky out of the photo, but rather felt that the sea and cliffs were more interesting, but I dare say that removed the blow out problem.

Thank you Stan. I really enjoyed my Orkney trip for this sort of scenery.

Awesome, John. This is proof that even a P&S can produce images as good as a professional camera when a good photographer is behind the lens.

That's as good as it gets! Really like the shot, everything about it feels right to look at! Captures the area very well.

The rock formation (just above the flowers on the lower left) forms the shape of a camel. Just wondered if anybody else saw that too. If not, I'm wierd, have been up all night working at the paper mill and am delusional. :)

No, you aren't delusional! The perspective, and the poistion of the water hitting the rocks at the time of capture, does indeed make us 'see' a camel!

John, you should be more observant - you didn't mention you were on safari at the time ;-)a

Thanks JT. I must admit though that while I liked a lot of the photos that I had taken at the time, a year and a DSLR's worth of experience later, and I cringe at some of them.

Thank you for your comments Baldybaldstock, Rog, anamorph, Albert, and Behzad. :)

I wandered what you were meaning, and what narcotic substance you had recently inhaled, until I saw the camel in the water. Well spotted! :D
