Apologies for the very large pic- but thought it worth showing. First time I've managed a butterfly shot with the MPE-65 at 1:1- the pic is uncropped. It's a very tolerant speckled wood butterfly :)

I always assumed a butterfly shot with the MPE-65 would be close to impossible with their skittishness. You have managed to pull off a superb photo here. Stunning really.

Please proceed, Governor.

Incredible shot. I guess as kids we all had "butterfly dust on our fingers, it is amazing to see it where it should be!

Thanks for the comments all :)- I suspect these speckled woods are less skittish than most butterflies.

Brian,

This photo at 1:1 definatly ranks in the top 10 and worthy of being printed poster size.
Great capture, now you got me getting the lens envy again but my wallet can't take it anymore just got the 70-200 F2.8 IS.

Thanks for sharring this awsome photo.

The sharpness and detail of that lens is rediculous! Awesome picture!

GORGEOUS. I love the fact that the detail is so crisp, yet there's a softness to the image. Very nice :-)

Thanks again for the comments- much appreciated.
Have to admit I didn't think this would work- thought the butterfly would spook :)

That is a great shot... crystal clear! I'm really impressed. I would love to do a little macro photography, but need to learn more. I did look up the cost of a lens and about fainted dead away. I have a Sigma 70-300 mm lens and it has a macro switch for the 200-300mm lengths only. The few pics I have are hand held, so not nearly as sharp as that one.
