That is a great shot... crystal clear! I'm really impressed. I would love to do a little macro photography, but need to learn more. I did look up the cost of a lens and about fainted dead away. I have a Sigma 70-300 mm lens and it has a macro switch for the 200-300mm lengths only. The few pics I have are hand held, so not nearly as sharp as that one.

Thanks :)
All my shots are handheld although I often rest on things or use my bean pole for extra stabilisation. The MPE-65 is a rather specialised piece of kit but you don't need one to take good macros- I'd get a set of Kenko tubes and use your 70-300mm at 70mm with them as mentioned in the other thread.

Another great shot Brian, every time I see one of the shots you've taken with that lens I think I must save up my pennies and get one. Then reality kicks in and I realise I need far more practise with the lenses I have before I contemplate such a move. :(

Thanks Mick :)
Not sure it's much different to any other macro lens at 1:1 but must admit I've never tried a direct comparison with my 105mm EX- I've got a set of ant shots I took Yesterday one with the 105mm +ext tubes and the rest with the MPE-65- maybe I'll see if people can work out the 105mm EX shot without looking at the exif data.
I think you are right about not getting one of these lenses until you can get good shots at near 2:1 with your present stuff- ie you need to feel limited by your present lenses before justifying the cost of an MPE-65. I spent most of the winter shooting tiny bugs with various lashups at up to 4:1 before I eventually decided it was worth getting one :)
