Went out looking for water birds to shoot last weekend at a local lake (was hoping to find some wood ducks  ) but didn't find any. Did see a pair of great blue herons but as soon as I set up my tripod, lens and camera, they decided it was time to move on. :(

The trip wasn't for naught, though. As I was getting ready to leave, a couple of deer came prancing my way. Since my gear was already put away, I grabbed the 500 with the camera attached and shot these handheld.

Both shot with 30D, EF 500 f/4 + 1.4x TC, Av, ISO 200, 1/640, f/7.1, AI Servo, Evaluative

Nice shots period, but handheld? Wow.
They really pop.

Bless the recently fallen and their family and friends.
I have a Cannon with me at all times. You can't take the shot if you don't have something with which to shoot.

Wow! I see lots of does, but have never, to my knowledge, seen a buck.
And we have lots of deer around these parts.
