To appreciate this you will need to see the thread here https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=181925

Anyway went out today at 2.40pm and the moth arrived at 2.45pm (3 days on the trot at the same time although 5 mins earlier each day). Got one shot of it with my 200mm with 33mm of ext tubes- then my cat took an interest- tried to catch it- missed but scared it away. Still I got one shot which luckily came out.
One hummingbird moth :)

Thanks :)
I've had the same thing with other bugs- eg butterflies turning up at the same time each day. Didn't get much chance for another view but at least I got a shot :). Wonder if it will turn up tomorrow or maybe the cat will have scared it away for good ?

Great shot! That's really cool.
I don't know what it is about cats and Canons but mine sure takes an interest in 'going for a walk' when I head out to shoot macros...
He's helping me get quicker on setup and shooting before he scares off the subject.
I'm glad you got the camera 'in use' this time, that is really a neat insect.
Congratulations and hopefully he'll be back for more photo opportunities.

Hi Brian, I'm touring France on the Goldwing at the moment. There's certainly a lot more crawly things over here, I didn't have room for the SLR so I've only got the Pro1 with me. I managed to get a few shots of a Humming Bird Moth yesterday and thought they'd fit in to this thread nicely so here they are, no set time of arrival as they come and go all day. The first one may be a bit light but it's so sunny here it's very hard to see the screen on my laptop :(

Neat shots- that's more like I as hoping for- but it may be back.

Yes not always useful things for macro shooting (cats that is) although he has spotted some bugs a few times that I hadn't seen :)

cool that you captured it brian, maybe tomorrow if it comes back you can get a better angle....

it's interesting that you say it turns up 5 minutes earlier each day...... now i don't know a lot about moths but i do know that they navigate by the moon and the sun.....
because of the earths orbit everything in the heavens rises about 4 and a half minutes earlier each day..... coincidence?..... I doubt it

my macro shooting companion is my dog..... he also often finds bugs for me that i never seen

Did wonder about the timing- thought it might not be a coincidence. I'll be there 2.35pm tomorrow minus the cat :)
