Having said I could not get near a greenbottle fly- managed it Yesterday :)
Love the colour on this even if it seems mainly blue to me :)

amazing detail Brian...
green bottle.............blu​ebottle........... I think the problem is that they get their paintjob done at TVR :)
its that kinda metallic colour that changes with light incidence..

Very nice shot Brian, they're amazingly lovely flies to photograph. Over here they seem quite relaxed when sunning themselves.

Thanks Dave,
I find many bugs totally confusing- one day you can't get within 2 feet of them then the next day they don't seem to mind if you stick a camera up their nose :)
This has happened recently with greenbottle flies and narcissus flies and damselflies- wonder if they get more relaxed after they have mated? :D

Yes, you're definitely right there Brian - except for hoverflies down under in my area. Other insects are flightly one day, homely the next. Like anything in life, it's a matter of being in the right place, and the right time and opening the eyes to notice.

Yeah I really like this shot, this fly looks like its made for SPEED! If it were a car it would be a Porsche GT2!

LOL this is gonna sound disgusting but it's what i thought when i read your post......

over here they look relaxed when sitting on a pile of s**t :)

NAH like i said if it was a car it would be a TVR Sagaris....

hahaha! I've never seen them on it. They're always seemingly sunning themselves on a leaf in the warm afternoon sun! No $hit!
