Hello...

I'm a newbie and I need some help. I am trying to get images that have at least a 3 mb file size. For some reason, I was only able to produce images of 2.8 mb. Can and will someone tell me what I am doing wrong. I am using a Cannon SD 2 Powershoot 5 mp. Could it be that I need a camera that has a higher mp? Like at least 6-8? Could it be that I need to fix my file compression? What should I do?

I have not invested in the more advance cannon digitals such as EOS because I'd like to get to know my first digital camera well before I invest in a more extensive digi. I mostly use my film camera, but since my assignments have become more challenging, I'd like to solve this problem. I usually use my ( Cannon Eos T2 ). ;)

I also know that croping/altering the size an image reduces that size of the file...

I'm not sure what the point of getting larger images in terms of file-size is. If you set your camera to maximum size and quality, you'll get the biggest images you're going to get.

That said, I use the highest quality JPEG settings on my Digital Rebel XT (which has an 8 megapixel sensor) and usually get images that hover around the 3 megabyte mark, with some as low as 2 megabytes.

Bodies: EOS 7D, Rebel XT/350D
Lenses: 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, 24-70mm f/2.8L, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS, 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS
Accessories: Speedlite 580EX II, Gitzo 1541T tripod, Markins Q3 Traveler ballhead

Ur lookin at the entire thing the wrong way... Just because ur image size is a little smaller doesnt mean u didnt get a rull rez image.. The camera has its own way om processing and compressing jpg data. File sizes will sometimes cary from frame to frame.

Why are you trying to get that particular file size? Just curious.

Perhaps to submit to a stock photography company that has minimum file size requirements? You can always use PS to increase ppi, which will increase file size. Do it sparingly though.
