Focus Bracketing (Focus-BKT Mode)

Does anyone have any tips on Focus Bracketing (G5) ?, i have tried it several times with no noticeable effect.

I use manual/manual focus and set the bkt on then select the widest setting, i have also tried the lowest setting, but all three images always seem to be the same focal point.

In the three images below all the focus points are the same ...

Are you sure it works in manual focus? I would have doubted it.
Try it on another mode and see if it works with that.

The only way i can get it to take three images is when its in manual focus, but the focal point always remains constant ...

I have tried this for the first time on my G6 and it works on mine ok.

I have looked a bit deeper into the question of actual points at which you can set focus.
In auto focus and at the full zoom setting there are 120 possible focus points on a G 3-4-5-6 camera.
when set in manual focus there are only 18 widely set points, where you can actually set focus.
The focus bracket seem to use points you can not set yourself and so improves slightly on a very poor manual focus system.

Bearing in mind the inherent high depth of field in these camera the Auto setting should give a very accurate focus.

This is not the case in manual ( again at longest zoom, and not much improved in wide position where depth of field helps more.)

Close up there is between 5 and 10 cm between setting points
Mid range 20 to50cm
long range 5 to50 meters

This is still good enough for manual setting in good light conditions as this should be covered by the depth of field.

But is not critical focus.

All in All the manual focus system is very much worse than in my 1953 Agfa Solinette rangefinder camera, which has an accurate range finder setting continously from I meter to infinity (and with a proximeter down to 10cm)

Thanks for the time you spent on the that Terry, i think at the range i`m wanting it isent going to work, with a +10 close-up filter and x4 zoom it may be shifting the focus but it wont be detectable by the human eye (at least my eyes) ...
