Snowberry Clearwings are a species of what are know as Hummingbird Moths that includes several bee imitators. The Snowberry does a great job of imitating a bumble bee.
I am not happy with this photo but it's the best I've got out of about a dozen keepers. I have been trying to get a couple of really clear, interesting shots of this species for two summers now. The biggest problems are that they are very active and that my back yard never gets full sun light so I'm shooting in shade.
The attached picture is one that I took over the weekend. I was able to only take three pictures before a mountain biker rode past and scared the little guy off.
I'm only posting it as motivation to complete my task of getting a couple of really sharp images where the individual hairs are noticable.
Taken with a 350D and 70-200mm F/4L.
