Amazon sellers are pretty much reliable. It's the eBay people that are uncontrolled.

What about Nextweb sales on Amazon? They are selling SanDisk Extreme III 8 GB CompactFlash Flash memory card (SDCFX3-008G-E31, EU Retail Package) for $49.

I just bought this, do you think it's fake? Was pretty cheap.

Yeah I too bought one of those EXACT cards, but the seller was like digital Resource or something. I got mine through Amazon also. I hope it's not a fake.

Before anyone points out the obvious "well what do you expect when you buy an $80.00 card for $30.00?!" I'm not camera savvy, and I assume that if these are bulk cards broken apart and sold minus packaging, software, etc. the price could still be this cheap and still remain profitable for the seller.

I haven't read through every reply here, so if I missed this please forgive me, but is there some sure-fire ways of telling a fake from a real one? Can I contact Sandisk with the serial number and see what they say?

I've got a genuine blue regular old 2gb SanDisk card from Wal-Mart also, but I'd like to use a class 6 4gb as long as it's not going to mysteriously have read/write errors, lose pics, etc.

:(

I bought one of these cards off of E-bay and I didn't know about this thread. Good thing for this thread!

Luckily I have a legit card. Thanks for the heads up.

I bought an extreme 4 4gb card on ebay for 20 bucks. It has a serial number, but I have a feeling that it was fake. New w/ no packaging and scuffs. But they sent me 2 of these cards. At ten bucks a pop, I am not complaining. I think they hold like 3.8gb each. Good enough for me.

Kory,

what i find is ebay, every bad seller uses stock images. not the real card their selling, so you cant spot their bad cards.

Yes i realize this and it sucks for those people who believe in sellers who are selling fakes... Looking for a bargain and getting ripped off is what sucks the most.

I posted this for the people who were worried if they had already bought it and wanted to know if there card was fake or not.

I understand all sellers use stock images which is very deceiving but what can you do besides buy them genuinely?

I have bought numerous CF cards (I'm aussie) off www.dealsdirect.com.au (external link) and www.shoppingsquare.com.au (external link) and i have never had a problem with fakes off there and i find these are cheaper AND more reliable than eBay anyway. There should be some sites like this i imagine around Europe/USA shouldn't there?

Interesting thread.
This has probably been said 20 times, but I skipped a few pages of it...
Is it worth the pain to buy on ebay etc and save a few bux and get something that may fail 1/2 way thru a wedding or holiday?
Is it better to just go buy something from a shop that you have a chance of lasting? I just walk into JB hifi (small chain in aussie), and they arent that much more than Ebay.

Feedback on Ebay isnt worth spit anymore I dont think.

Ebays reputation is getting worse and worse, if they continue to allow criminal activity after being warned, it could be argued they themselves are obtaining money by deception. Maybe someone should bring a case against them.

Yeah I was looking on the Ebay to see if I could find a deal on some memory card but then ran across this thread. I also received some info from ebay in an email about the fake cards. I remember reading that Ebay won't do anything or can't do anything unless the Co. (San Disk in this case) request it or something or another.

Good thing I saw this thread.

I ended up buying 2 8gb Lexar Prof UDM CF cards - one from Best Buy (sale) and one from B&H, especially now since they are having an $80 rebate until January which knocks the price down to about $40 dollars each. According to Rob Galbraith test of CF cards the Extreme were slow with the Canon 50d while the Lexar was really fast.

Bruce,

JB has a special on the Extreme III 8GB i just bought one for $125 reduced from $145. Dealsdirect are selling them for $129 and free shipping and myshopping is selling them for $114 with $9 postage i think. Good time to buy CF cards down under!
