Bruce,

JB has a special on the Extreme III 8GB i just bought one for $125 reduced from $145. Dealsdirect are selling them for $129 and free shipping and myshopping is selling them for $114 with $9 postage i think. Good time to buy CF cards down under!

Thanks for the heads up, great to hear :)

I'll drop in on way home tonight. problem is our local one, seems to only have 2 people working there... and neither have a clue.. Asked a question the other day bout CF cards, he disappeard out the back and never came back...

I have dealt with flashman852 on E-Bay and it has been a very frustrating experience for me. Made purchase 4 months ago and it was a total rip-off. Everytime I lodge a complaint, I am told that investigation is on going, they have shipped the item, they will ship the item, etc, but with no tracking number and no solid proof. Wasted my time as each time I have decided to wait and see that the timeline for me to bring up the matter to dispute in E-Bay has lapsed. So please don't make the same mistake and yes, I have not received my item yet. Flashman852 has cheated me!

Did you close your credit card account, if you used one? I had an experience with some shiisters online when purchasing a P$S camera - one of those online companies in NY where they advertisedl an item for cheap but want mad money for the accessories. Long story short I closed my CC account right after because something didn't feel right dealing with these people and low an behold they tried to use the account to purchase computer equipment on Amazon. Afterwards I googled the name and there's lots of info about this company and its shady dealings.

Oh No, I didn't. I bought from E-bay using my PayPal Account. Thanks for the alert though! This conman company from Hong Kong actually has so many positive reviews that I was convinced. It was not until I was conned that I checked further on the Internet that I foudn that this company Flashman852 has conned others from aroudn the world as well. Please please be warned. It was a costly experience costing me close to USD50 plus! And I bought it with Insurance included and look at my preidcament. Just wanna alert the rest.

Did you file a claim with the credit card company? That's why I always use my credit card for purchases, even with paypal: it provides an additional recourse for these sort of things.

good luck and that name has been noted

I bought a Scandisk IV 8GB card from ebay that arrived today. Everything appeared ok - the store looks ok, exchanged email with store over shipping, got confirmation of payment and the shipping and tracking notice. The card looked authentic to me, the shipping package has the same markings as the ones on the manufacturer's site, so I assume it was ok.

....Until I tested the speed. I inserted the card in my camera Canon 50D and fired 14 quick bursts. It took my Lexar card only 14 seconds to clear the buffer. I replaced the Lexar with the ebay Scandisk and repeated the same operation - it took 32 seconds to clear the buffer. Clearly this was a fake card ! The capacity is ok, but the speed is wrong. I don't even want to bother using it.

i wish sandisk would put up an ID your card page somewhere.

Also, if you want to see if your card is a rebadged card, as in some other brand labled as Sandisk, get a card reader for your computer. For laptops you want either a PC Express card or some form of PCMCIA card. You can then check the properties of the card in Control Panel/System/Hardware/Devices where you will find the card when it's in the reader slotted into the computer. You can check the DETAILS tab under the drive/card's properties. Genuine Sandisk cards have an ID indicating they are Sandisk...anything else and you should call Sandisk.

As far as I know the ID check does not work via USB hub readers....or it does not work with all readers. I have not use a desktop system in over a decade so I don't know. Someone else might be able to verify this...otherwise I am unsure how to check on a desktop system w/o a buil-in or internal card reader.

Ijust got a Delkin EFilm Expresscard 54mm UDMA CF Reader and wanted to use it to check out a card that I got from Ebay...but when I put it in and go to properties for the "EOS_DIGITAL" it comes up with only the following tabs:
General
Autoplay
Tools
Hardware
Sharing

The General Tab does show that it is 3.8 GB

FWIW the card is supposed to be a 4GB SanDisk Extreme III 30MBs
I would like to be able to see if it is real or not for my own accord but then to also do something about it so no one else gets taken by the person it was purchased from (off Fleabay

edit: fwiw, i am running XP

Having got the scare I checked my Sandisk Ultras with the Mac DiskUtility which gave me the name "SanDisk SDCFH-2048" which is in accord of the manufacturer's info.

Most users cannot tell the difference between an ultra card and an animal cracker so the marker is wide open for counterfeiters. But why blame eBay? You could blame Internet as well, or while you are at it, the Western Capitalism as it has made possible these crimes.

I have been phished once, not because of eBay but because I was neglecting their instructions. Other attempts have been in vain as now I am better informed.
Common sense comes in handy as well. If something is dirt cheap and good quality, there probably is a crime in its history. Counterfeit products can be nearly as good as originals. Also, people eBay stolen stuff!

I have informed eBay security every time I've smelled a rat and seen 3 ebayers closed down.

And, yes, a good policy to check B&H prices before closing a deal with a Chinese seller. Surprises there.

I didn't realize until to late that the fake cards have a wider silver border on top (CF cards) I have since learned not to buy anything in the overseas market(Hong Kong etc.)
thank goodness It was just a card and not a lens or camera. I did use the card to test and it seemed OK. I won't risk it on a serious shoot. I used it for Christmas Photo's etc.
