Ijust got a Delkin EFilm Expresscard 54mm UDMA CF Reader and wanted to use it to check out a card that I got from Ebay...but when I put it in and go to properties for the "EOS_DIGITAL" it comes up with only the following tabs:
General
Autoplay
Tools
Hardware
Sharing

The General Tab does show that it is 3.8 GB

FWIW the card is supposed to be a 4GB SanDisk Extreme III 30MBs
I would like to be able to see if it is real or not for my own accord but then to also do something about it so no one else gets taken by the person it was purchased from (off Fleabay

That's normal to not be quite the advertised capacity. ALl hard drives come like that. You should be fine.

the 3.8 didnt bother me as I am aware that it is always a bit less...i was just including that as specific info that i could see....still the expresscard reader didnt allow me to see if this was a real sandisk card

there must be a program we can use to tell us speed etc.

legit and used is my guess.

Buy memory cards from BHphotovideo, Adomrama, Newegg, Amazon, or big stores like Best Buy.
The price can vary even on individual sizes and speeds.
Good to check several places.

Just don't buy memory cards on eBay.

Honestly, I do not know how to tell if my card is a fake or not. I did not read throughout the thread but looked at pictures and my card is not on there, here is where I got mine from on eBay

Yea, it takes about 1 minute or less to transfer about 350 raw files to my computer. Not sure if that is normal or not but it seems fast to me, went through close to 6,000 pictures on it so far. Every time I take pictures I remove them from the card since the 8gb only holds about 300-400ish files in raw

Not until now did I discover my 8gb Extreme IV was a FAKE.. If you don't know about the serial number, or don't have an authentic one side-by-side, the difference isn't that easy to see!

Now when I bought a genuine 8gb Extreme III at my local shop and compared both cards on my 5D2, the genuine Extreme III was THREE TIMES AS FAST as the fake Extreme IV off eBay! (tested with continuous burst, RAW, MF)

I guess I'll go straight to my local dealer next time instead of trying to save twenty bucks with fleeBay, even if the seller seems to be reliable... Thanks for the info!

I was talking with a co-worker about this until he told me that he purchased a fake CF card from ebay. Didn't know it at first but after a few months he kept on getting error messages on his D700 and it completely failed on one of his shoots. He wound up throwing it away but learned an important lesson: Always buy from B&H, Adorama, J&R, etc.

i don't think ebay would ever check those stuff... It is a transaction and i don't think ebay cares about anything other than charging the selling fee...

I honestly think eBay does care. You have to think about the number of people who deal on eBay every day on a regular basis. I've got 201 transactions buying and selling on eBay and in all those, only three times I've had to file a dispute. eBay cannot keep people from dealing on their site but when there is a dispute they jump right on it. The fact of the matter is there are always going to be some people who lack integrity and it's up to us to do research before making a purchase. always check the seller's history before you do any deal.

I got conned on eBay on 2x Extreme IV Sandisk 8GB CFs.
I even asked the seller (someone from HK!) if they were the real deal and his reply was "YES"!

They arrived and they were poop! Fake as you like, so I disputed the sale and his reply was: "they are just like the genuine ones but a little slower!"

So I ended up getting my money back and eBay asked me to dispose of the cards (which I obviously did! )

But the cards never even work like any other CF! they constantly give errors and some card readers don't like them at all!
