That Sucks. Sorry to hear this sort of thing happens. I think I will be paying full price for memory cards from now on (or buying them from POTN mods ;)) Other then your camera there is nothing more important then a working CF Card. Actually I think a CF card is more important to be working right because Cameras can be replaced and moments can not.

Totally agree, we have all been warned. Don't cheap out here.

Is it just the Ultras I've got ot be weary of? I'm after some memory and may go for Kingston instead.

I am very happy with my Kingston.

It's impossible to say from that. I believe recent Sandisk packaging has a hologram on it, but I can't remember what the packaging for my Ultra II card looked like - it's in the loft and I can't easily get to it. In any case, I'm in the UK, and the packaging may be a bit different.

If you're not sure, post a picture of any alphanumeric code on the card, along with the front and back. Usually emailing any alphanumeric code to Sandisk, together with the marked type and capacity is enough to get confirmation as to whether the card is genuine or fake.

I have two of the newer genuine Sandisk 2G cards and they have a hologram sticker that has the serial number on it on the front sticker. You have to move it back and forth to read it.

I don't know if this is typical, but the serial number is no longer on the edge of the cards. This method would be much more difficult to duplicate.

I just recieved a fake as well, mine from 'ukqsbuk'.

Very annoyed. The things looks perfect, although my camera was unable to format it, and putting it into the computer reveals it is a rebadged "hyper" something or other.

Have begun claim process with ebay- scandalous that they don't penalise the sellers that sell counterfeit goods, and that they allow them to continue selling!!

They look fake to me.
No hologram, and the box of a genuine card is made of much stiffer cardboard than the fakes, ie. it is very difficult to squash it. The plastic holding the card is better quality too, making removal of the card rather difficult, much moreso than with a fake.
The black on the box of a genuine card is also blacker, whereas the fakes are greyish black (if you look at the picture in your link of the bunch of cards lined up, you will notice blacker boxes, which is what the genuine ones are more like).

I know an Australian eBayer selling genuine SanDisk 2Gb Ultra II CF cards for A$110, but he doesn't ship internationally

Hello

After purchasing two 1GB Sandisk Extreme III CF cards on E-BAY and stumbling onto this sight from an E-Bayer in austraila about fake cards, I contacted the seller about the cards, here is what he said.

Regards,

Thank you for bringing your concerns regarding the item you just
purchased. Regarding the memory card, it is copy of the original with
the same specs and performance; it is not a low quality card. As you
probably know, the price you paid is relatively lower. We look forward
to establish an honest, long relationship with all our clients. We do
not deceive anyone. We offer a two year warranty for the card (if it
is defective or malfunctioning, we will replace it). However, as you
might know, SanDisk offers a "lifetime" guarantee on their products
(exchange), although a memory card usually becomes obsolete in a 2-4
years. We will gladly issue a refund if you want. Just let us know
about your decision. We look forward to hear from you. Thank you

Jose

After about an hour PayPal Emailed me about a refund, I got my money for these, now I am going after the two I bought yesterday.

The seller is " CULANTROSEEDS " ( 14 ) 100% , I will be contacting E-BAY and PayPal on this seller.

I quess I will go to BEACH or Cameta or a reputable place.
