Ouch! That hurts.... it's a shame the scammers on Ebay have to ruin it for all the honest brokers. Anymore I just stick to B&H and my local shop for critical stuff.

An update on mine: the seller opened an unpaid item dispute and somehow won it, even though she never replied to my claim. I got an unpaid item strike against me on eBay.

Digitalwave if i understood well what you've said, maybe i can "help" you
i got a strike from ebay as well, but since i was refunded by paypal, i answered to the strike saying i was refunded for a reason and the strike was unfair
then ebay emailed my again saying the strike was cancelled
i don't know why, but i even didn't had a bad evaluation from the seller, but i gave one for sure...

I didn't get negative feedback. I never paid for the item, so I guess the strike is just, but its a fake item so I'd rather take the strike then be out my money I guess.

you should definately leave negative feedback... somebody did on here and that's why you didn't end up out of your money. if no body does there then more and more people are gonig to get ripped off.

oh, and i think you can leave a reply on your own account so you can say that the item was fake and that you didn't want to get ripped off.

I did that, but I still got the strike. The seller never replied to my response so I don't know why I got it. I don't want to leave negative feedback for the seller because I know I will receive it back.

Howdy,

I just got burned by this, though not through Ebay but through a vender with a PriceGrabber storefront.

http://www.pricegrabber.com …id=5541576&lot_id=3044297 (external link)

Note that when I bought the card it was about $20 under B&H's price ($149.99)... I.e. it wasn't stupidly cheap enough to raise flags to me.

SanDisk confirms that the serial number on the card isn't one of their products:

The serial number on the back of the 4gb card says:
"JG-CF4GB-SMSL4-0622"

I also have an Ultra II 2GB card, which _does_ have a serial number on the back that starts with a "B".

So I take it this confirms that I have a counterfeit CF card?
SanDisk Log me into my eBox: (07/23/2006 03:26) Hello Mark,

Thank you for contacting SanDisk Technical support. It is our goal to make sure that you have all the resources that you need to make the most out of your product.

Your case id number is: 696090.

Should you have any other concern with our products, please reply to this email.

SanDisk Technical Support

My advice is to _only_ buy from an established store you've dealt with before. B&H, Adorama, etc.

Adding further insult to injury, PayPal won't even let me file a dispute against the transaction unless I open an account with them. Of course, I already _have_ an account with them, with all the same information. But, because I wasn't logged into the account when I paid this scamming f*cker, the payment doesn't show up. Their resolution is for me to close the current account and open a new one with the exact same information. It was unclear to me how in the heck that would pick up the payment.

_My_ resolution is going to be to dispute the charge with my credit card company and possibly with PriceGrabber. I did send the lying pigf*cker a request for a refund through PriceGrabber, but doubt I'll hear much of anything.

Mark

(btw, the card does 'work'... I was using it the past few weeks before I saw this thread. But I wanted a SanDisk Ultra II card and paid for one... Not some random POS card.)

Damn, I just got an ultra III from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …ame=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1 (external link)

Seems mine is fake as well! It shows up as 2Gb in the Card reader, but it's missing a serial number and the label on the back is 'dodgy'

Interesting though is a 2Gb UltraII I purched a month or so ago, also does not have a serial number on it !!!
I have been using this for several race meetings and it seems fine. Is there a way of doing a speed check(perhaps through card reader)?

Hehe, that's the name my wife set it up as ages ago.

The seller has just replied:

Hello eBay Member:

this card is a OEM product. If you dont like it, please return it to the following address. we will Full refund as soon as receive your return item. Please leave item no as a reference when you send it back.

Return address:
Mr. Y. Yxxxxx

Best regards,

I'm concerned about just sending it back without first receiving my paypal money?
What do you think?

Also I did a little test last night:
I chose a single 94MB RAR file, and dragged/dropped it onto the card using my card reader.
Then did the same back to another hard drive on my system
(All SATA drives)

Here's my 'interesting results(all time in mm:ss:ms):
This is the one I just won on Ebay:
2Gb Extreme 3 -94Mb file write: 40.4s
2Gb Extreme 3 -94Mb file read: 01.6s

One I got last month from Ebay:
2Gb Ultra II -94Mb file write: 42.5s
2Gb Ultra II -94Mb file read: 01.8s

One I have had for years:
Jessops own 128Mb - 94MB Write: 80.5s
Jessops own 128Mb - 94 MB read: 01.6s

Cheap 1Gb from 7dayshop 94MB Write:33.2s
Cheap 1Gb from 7dayshop 94 MB read:01.4s

See my writeup at hardforum.com regarding these cards:

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1061519 (external link)

As far as returning though, the sellers were not very good with letting me return the items. One or two did give me return addresses, but I was hesitant to send them back as I don't think I'd be getting anything back. I currently keep them in my bag as spares.
