This is growing on a hill side in the same soil as blue berries. I thought by the foliage it was a mountain laural family, but finding one with the blossoms intact has me guessing now...

Greetings, Interesting flowers. I saw this in the Audubon Society field guide. It is Sheep Laurel (Kalmia Angustifolia) also called Lambkill. We have Mountain Laurel here in North Carolina which looks very much like the flower that you have photographed. Thanks for sharing. KC

Thank you Forrestt...interesting story to go with the photographing of this flower...I did not have my camera with me so I picked this to bring home and put it in my shirt pocket...after I shot it and was viewing the image on the monitor i spotted a cruitter on the foliage...enlarged it and aaggghhhh, it appears to be a deer tick ! of course I went back to check the piece of plant ant it was gone...leaving me to panic as to where and when I might find the little bugger !!! I hate ticks!!!!:(

Greetings, I have read that the deer ticks spread some kind of disease that causes either brain or nerve damage. Be careful. KC

It's called lyme disease...shots involved and without them it can cause some sever problems over time...We never had ticks in Maine when I was a kid...they have come with the warming climate in the past 20 years...I will be careful,,,thanks..
