There was a dog on the other side of the fence that this cheetah was staring down.

Now, seriously, I need some HEAVY comments and criticism on this picture. I feel like I'm posting crap everytime I post becuase no one says anything, positive, or negative. I personally like the expression on the cheetah's face, yet I hate the fence that was in the way. I was only a few feet away from it at the bronx zoo.

Bars aside I think it is a good shot. It is sharp where it needs to be. I would try and lighten up around the eyes or just the eyes to see them better in PP. The DOF fits well. I have liked most of your shots, but, being a newbie it is hard for me to say this is good or this is bad.

I like it! I think the lighting is nice, so is the BG. The expression is great.

The color looks a little flat to me. I'm no expert mind you, just an opinion. Did you do any post processing? I did a little, what do you think?
I added some saturation, some contrast, and masked the eyes and mouth and lightened them up so they would pop some more.

Only PP I did was crop/resize and rotated it a little so the fence was straight up and down. Here's my attempt at color correction:

i didn't mess with the color balance. I just added saturation and contrast. But when i did that, the eyes and mouth went almost total black. So i masked them, and lightened them up a bit. I did it very quickly and forgot to make the fence that is over the right (our left) eye match the rest of it. So you can see how much i lightened the eyes.

Nice shot....the 'fence' doesnt look like it would contain him if he really wanted to get at the dog! I might try whitening his teeth and see if it gives him a more menacing look.

Given the environement, I think it's quite a good shot. The main criticism I would have is that the eyes are rather dark, and especially in cats this a big draw

Had to fix the fence over the eye, it was too distracting.

Since the face is the point of interest a portrait shot works best for me. It does need more contrast as said, but I cropped your original post. The tendency is to over-saturate and IMO your second image is better and probably closer to the actual color. Good capture and tacksharp.

Agree with the saturation, it's a bit more than the natural coat color, here is one with just the eyes and mouth brought out a bit.

I like the NON cropped version (which is a rareity for me as I am a tight cropper) and l like the color saturated enhancement as well. I would like to see the shawdows lighter, but have NO idea HOW to do that, but I know people on here do it all the time. One day I will have to learn...

This is NOT crap...I really like it, dont love it cuz of the bars, but what can you do?
