In October, I would have never tried this one. But I decided I would shoot out of the box (he, he). One is boring and what I used to do, the other, me sitting on the ground (yes, again, Sari) at the Lincoln Memorial. People watching from all over the world.:o

I think the second one is much nicer. Changing perspective that is different than if you were standing up and looking straight ahead (aka snapshot composition) almost always makes for a more interesting shot in my view. Look how much stronger the kids are in the foreground. Makes the shot look much less flat.
Just my version, corrected for the distortion and cropped a bit tighter to get rid of negative space.

The second pic is very nice!

Tee,. you may have "fixed" the perspective for the print behind Honest Abe.. but it totally whacked the perspective for the kids

My sons love the second one fixed! Very funny, but I did read the Digital Photography book that helps these distortions. I will try to do this when I have a few hours to fugure it out. :) I am not so brave, remember. But I want to learn, so it's really going to be an adventure. I noticed the distortion as well, but with the wide, it's bound to happen.

Thanks for all the compliments. I have truly grown as a photographers in the last months being part of this forum. So many of you are brilliant in your crafts and I am seeing more and more talent coming on. I started taking pictures because of my beautiful children. The better my photography gets, the more gratitude I feel to everyone I learn from. Thanks. Still learning and still making lots of mistakes, but loving every minute of it!

I think most of us feel this way. Just a take a look at this photo (external link) which is among one of the first I have ever taken with a film slr back in 1996. This could have been so much better if I had not cutoff the cinderella castle and if I had waited until the little girl to the left had moved away. So only my sister and her husband was in the photo. But I have learned lots since and a lot of from here.

Oh, that was bad. :) I have a semi-positive attitude about past work-shots. I've decided not to agonize over them, as I only had a wide angle camera/fixed lens combination with my 22 year old when he was a baby. So many pictures of little baby, really large surroundings. Oh, those were the days. My two little sons have so many beautiful pictures. But again, I don't feel bad. That's what I had and I will make it up to my oldest whenever he gets married and has kids. He's available, girls, and he sings like Josh Groban. :) Always the mother . . . . :)

They're not showing for me either here at work but I'm sure my problem is the firewall and/or the fact that I'm using Internet Browser. :(

Had to uninstall FireFox because it's on our list of banned software (not sure why it is, though).
