The macro setting on the a620 leaves a lot to be desired but here is a mushroom my father found in his yard. I took it from a few angles, reduced size images can be seen here. http://www.aperturehead.com …y/showgallery.php?cat=544 (external link)

Here's a sample. :) C&C welcome.

That mushroom is Morchella esculenta, or the Morel. That one is a bit old, but still very edible and delicious. I take a lot of fungi photos and most that critique me say that my DOF (depth of field) should be more in focus. You also might want to try not using flash. You'll get the camera shake symbol, but just use a small tripod and put your camera on a 2 second delay so you won't nudge when you shoot.

By the way, my avatar is a large cluster of Morels.

Actually, I believe that to be Morchella elata, the black morel. Never the less, delicious.

I actually didn't use a flash. unfortunately the sun hits that part of the yard, that's why the stem looks blown out. It didn't look natural shaded though so I stuck with this. I put it on 2 second delay and set the camera on the ground. :) How can I increase DOF? It seems that on the A620 what you get is what you get as far as DOF goes.

That thing got a LOT bigger later. It lasted quite awhile too. Thanks for the info on what it is.. I'll tell my dad to harvest it next time he finds one. I'm not a mushroom eater. :)

"Ziplock bag of dried beans " great idea! I need one of these!!! lol

That's a cool looking mushroom. If I were the expert I would have dubbed it the BRAIN mushroom! but I'm no expert. I'll leave that to people like O_T ;)

That's funny, my dad called it that when he first told me about it.
