Wild bird seeking a name, in Australia being fed from my own hand...glad I have autofocus on the camera because I only have one available!

Thanks, I think Galah is the right name. This shot was taken in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Hmmm...I hadn't noticed the strange crest because the illustrations didn't come up when I first read the description! Is the female the only one with this odd crest?

Cool shot. Darn other people, can't the get out of the frame when you're shooting? Just kidding, well sort of, this person probably didn't see you with the camera, but I have had others look right at me and be oblivious.

I haven't gone to work on the shot with Paintshop Pro or Photoshop yet. That photo I posted was as-shot right out of the camera, in a folder away from my photo PC. Time for the cloning tool!

Definitely looks like a Galah to me.

Wilt: Galahs are much like Cockatoos in that both sexes have the crest and are hard to tell the males and females apart, unless you know what you're looking for (I don't).

Currently just a P&S, but watch this space.

Most definately a galah. They are in the same family as Cockatoos. Pelvic bone testing and surgical sexing is quite often used (surgical sexing only when it must be done).

I just re-stumbled across this thread and noticed that someone wanted to see the result of the person in the background cloned out of the photo. Well, here it is! I might have done better, but since this was merely a lark...
