or more accurately "Scudder's Bush Katydid"

1. This is how small they were just a few weeks ago (May 8)

5. I came across a katydid this morning that had just "jumped out of its skin":

Really cool....I've never seen one so close. I do know that they're really loud in the summer. or is that cicadas?

Wow, what a series, all!...May I ask what lens and how it was lit? My macro is struggling and these are worth knowing about!!! #'s 3 , 6 and 7 especially are the perfect DOF, color and lighting...I feel like I'm there , in their size range and looking !

Hi Peachman, thanks for the compliments :D .

I used a Tokina 100mm macro lens for all these pics. It is hard to remember where I used tubes and how many, but I think I remember the first pic being all zoomed in, no tubes. The last one I know had 68mm tubes and I zoomed all the way out. I use a 430 speedlite with a LSIIPJ. I tried using a bracket, in fact some pics may have been taken using it, but that setup gets very heavy. I think the advantage of the lightsphere is that it sticks out so much and gives the flash extra length.
