In about a month (maybe 5 weeks), my grandparents will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. My dad and aunt are going to put together a big celebration. They have asked me to do the photography, and of course I agreed. 60 years together is MOST DEFINITELY something to celebrate!

Thing is, while I still have my 420EX, Digital Rebel, 24-70 f/2.8L, 70-200 f/4L, and Flash Bracket, I've had all of ZERO training in event photography. And my grandparents are only going to have one 60th wedding anniversary. I know I won't be perfect since this will be my first time...but I'd like to do the best I can.

Any tips or books out there specificaly on event photography?

Thanks

Hardly any book will tell you perfect solutions.
Important stuff is get have picture of decoretet room and details, gruop pictures, grandparents alone (huging and maybe a little kiss just for fun).Try that your pictures are fun to watch later, so try to get people to smile.

Capture faces and emotions, and avoid a lot of dead space around your subjects. Do some posed shots of the couple and of couple and family members. Get some cake shots and don't forget shots of the older couple interacting with young children.

Read a book about posing groups, there are a bunch suggested here. Get candids of the guests too. Make sure you have lots of batteries for cameras and flash.
