I just got an email from Apple saying that they would be shipping 3 1DsMkII's on 8/8/2006 for delivery on the 9th. It still says 1Ds clearly...but that is a big lag in delivery date. Time will tell.

Sounds like they're dropshipping through Dell who's dropshipping through whoever. :)

OR they're just hoping you get annoyed with the wait time and cancel, saving their ass from shipping at a serious loss. ;)

What time did you place your order? Also on your online "Your Account" does it show 1DS or N as the camera?

Good luck!

The sad thing is some poor shmuck at Apple probly got canned over this. 1000 cameras x 3k each under price = $3mil.

Thats a real bad friday for a webmaster making $100k a year let alone some poor data entry guy making $10 an hour,

The 1dS Mk2 fun has given me pause for a bit of thought. Imagine for a second that this isnt the pricing error it appears to be. Canon decides to go for the bomb that shakes up the inventory and drops the 1DS2 price to $4k retail. Since we know Apple never discounts, you have to assume that other retailers will and that the 1DS2 is available for say $3600 around the country. Obviously that is going to squeeze their entire line of cameras. All of a sudden the 1d2N becomes $2500, the 5D $2k. the 30D $900 amd the XT all of a sudden goes for $400 or so =)

Given that total frantasy scenario, what would you change about your camera setup? Would you instantly upgrade? Would you buy a second of your current model as a spare? Would you buy an XT to keep in the car and not worry so much about it being stolen? Or would you simply keep what you've got and be happy?

I'd probably keep me 20D and add a used 20d as a backup and keep in the car cam. Of course I've got that 1Ds2 on order now, so maybe the 20d becomes the front seat cam, not sure if I would sell it or not, I'm gonna have to figure out how to pay for that 1ds2 if it really is coming arent I? =)

Also. obviously this isnt going to go over well with the other manufacturers either! Would you consider getting one of them to complement your Canon kit? I've got a bunch of older Nikon lenses that I keep on an 8008s for black and white film, if the D50 was $350 all of a sudden it might be tempting to make that into my new carry around and bash up instead =)
