Shimmery, coppery little fly

This little fly (ca 5mm) is incredibly pretty with the naked eye. It has a goldish/coppery body which is highly reflective. I'm not sure that the pics do it justice, but you get the idea. The eyes are pretty neat though :)

Great shots!

I know what you mean about the pictures not doing justice. The ones in my yard have the brightest red body, but it usually comes out more subdued in photos.

They also get the coolest eye colors!

Nice shot Bea, it's a Dolichopodidae fly. They have wonderful colours.

Lovely shot Bea- this family of flies seem to come in a range of sizes- I've got them from 3mm to 14mm in the garden at the moment :)- all beautifully irridescent
