Quite possibly it could, depending on how responsive the lens being used is. I've never considered trying AF on flying insects. Come spring and the Bees arriving out onto the Japanese Maple tree out back, I'm gonna try it and I'll let you know. Of course, I have a 1D, not a Mark II, which does have slightly bettter AF.
