Last night we went to Ocean Downs in Maryland. I was able to get a couple decent shots, but once the sun went down I couldn't get the shutter to go quick enough. I am sure it is mostly user error and some equipment issues. I am ordering the Sigma 70-300 DG APO lens. But I am not sure that will fix the problem. What exactly do I look for in a lens for these type of night shots?
The pictures have no PP apart from image sizing.
Here is a shot from the warmup before the first race.

This one is kind of odd... This was out back when we were getting ready to load the horse onto the trailer. It looks like the horse is transparent in a few spots. How did this happen? They are not reflections, but what is actually behind the horse.

First one is ok. It seems a little OOF (out of focus), but its a good starts. Composition is good.
The second shot is an example of ghosting. Its when ur flash fires but the shutter speed is still slow. The horse would have moved between the time the flash fired and the time the shutter closed. If u dont want ghosting just make sure ur shutterspeed is above approx 1/60 when ur flash fires at nite.

Vision, cognition and an optical mouse!!! :D
