Nice catch! It's a sphinx moth of some sort, family Sphingidae. Sometimes they're called hawk moths, or hummingbird moths. A few have scaleless patches on the wings, and get called bumblebee moths.

Yours -might- be a nessus sphinx, Amphion floridensis, which ranges as far west as texas. But don't take my word for it! IDs from pictures, which is all I did, are suspect--check out descriptions that have details of what to look for, including size and better locality info, and see if you can find out the what the caterpillars eat, too. That can help with ID, if you know you do or don't have potential larval plants nearby.

The pictures I looked at were at the Butterflies and Moths of North America site. It's the best first stop for North Amercan lepidoptera. They even have checklists of what's been found by state/county which can help enormously:

Thanks so much.
I have never seen these around here before and been in this area for over 35 yrs.
They buzz like a bee at first thats what I thought it was until it spread its wings.
It was on the bark of our water oak tree theres this stuff like oozing there but its not been there before the family thinks its something to do with the bug. LOL.

I will check out the link thanks.

Sonya

Well, the ooze (from a fungus infection, maybe?) could be what bought the moth to you. Many butterflies and moths will sip at sap, mud, and even manure, to get the minerals that nectar lacks. There are lots of recipes for 'sugaring' moths, usually some variation of molasses, beer, and mashed fruit boiled into a syrup thick enough to spread on bark and rocks. Then you wait around with a good flashlight to see what comes to visit. Different species can have different preferences, so trying variations is good. For butterflies, Bob Pyle recommends setting up a pan of damp mixed sand and mud, 'and if a cat finds it handy, so much the better" :-)
