I love them. Gorillas are my favorite. I tried taking some at the woodland park zoo the other day, but the glass was filthy and I could get any good shots.

Hi there Tess320,

Don't you please wanna take a minute or two and explain your workflow on eg. Pic #5, not the CC stuff, but sharpening, etc...

I mean from RAW to finish, cause the photo is sharp, yet soft (if that makes sense?) let me try and explain it this way, it looks like a film shot?

thanks,
Derrick

Um, not sure I totally remember. As I can recall, I didn't do much to number 5. It was shot in RAW, I did not adjust the exposure but the picture style was "neutral" so that the contrast was low. Then I converted, and in PS I added shadow to the face, and a tiny bit of contrast overall, and then sharpened with USM. And then cropped.

Actually this was my first day out with the 30D and despite claims it is the same in image quality as the 350D, I have found it just has a different "look", regardless of settings.

Thanks for the reply, I't's probably the quality of the lens that makes the biggest difference then. Does the 30D have the same size sensor (28mm), than the 350?

I'm taking my new canon lens out this weekend, and see to what extend there is a
difference on that.

Thanks,
Derrick

Congrats on the new camera Tess. The first portrait is perfect....the best I've ever seen of a gorilla. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them.

What a great series. I can not wait to see your next set of primates. These are filled with emotion and a terrific sense of texture. They make me feel like I could reach out and touch them. I find it hard to choose a favorite, maybe number 1. Although I find number 2 very appealing. I think it might have lost a little bit in this thread compared to the others but a fabulous capture indeed.

Excellent shots! I have a hard time getting shots to come out this well, I wish the habitat at the zoo we go to was outdoor.

Thanks for looking!

Did you soften #1? I really like the shot. Just as Derrick stated it looks soft and sharp at the same time. Very good stuff.
