If I have this right Emperor Dragonfly, Anax imperator, Female ovipositing. She was at this for some time moving around giving me a chance of several angles.

Wonderful series. Interesting the male isn't attached like the darter dragons and damsel flies do.

Thanks folks folks. It was very exciting to find a relatively cooprative dragon.

Brian: Yes I thought they always oviposited in the linked state too. But she spent quite a while at this ans was not bothered by any males although a curious Common Blue Damselfly came up for a moment to check out what was going on.

Leo: Thanks; I am not sure if she is using the water surface tension or the weeds under the surface or perhaps both. She was quite big, although being about 3M away limited the magnification I could get.

Jeff: I agree, but she is so lovely I thought I would show several of her.
