I was surprised how tall and lean this groundhog looked when it alerted and stood.

That is a neat shot. I didn't realize how tall they were when standing like that either.

All the animal shots are so cute today. Great photo. I wish these guys weren't living under my house and my barn and my shed right now though.

Do they cause property damage?

Yes, They cause property damage, but probably not in the way you imagine. They don't eat the buildings, like say termites and mice would. But they burrow their way through pastures and under barns and sheds and through gardens, etc.

If you have horses, which I do, the horse can break a leg if one of their legs falls into one of the groundhog holes, and some of those holes are huge! They will go through a pasture and leaving tunnels which will eventually ruin the grading and cause water to stand in the fields instead of moving right along as it should.

In our neck of the woods, they are considered a rodent and dealt with as such! LOL But they are kinda cute though, aren't they.

I am just too soft to treat them as rodents. I don't appreciate when the momma stands up and makes that high shrilling noise at me though. I have a few choice words for her and I tap the glock on my side a couple of times but she ignores me for the most part. Next year I will start relocating them to other scenic areas in NJ. Hey everybody needs a vacation, even Justin.

I feel the same way about our squirrels. I'm tempted to shoot one and see
if the others pay attention and leave the feeder alone,
but I couldn't actually bring myself to buy a slingshot and some BBs.

Wow.. a little hostility here aye?? They 're just trying to make a living...probably they don't like it that we just put up houses, barns and gardens where they have lived for thousands of years..They don't get pissed at us for that and drag us down into their dens and gnaw our feet of do they..? I don't think they had a choice in what they were born as, like we had the choice that we would be people ,hmmmm? Great shot, he looks more like the way prarie dogs stand...

I'm with PEACHMAN, We used to have gophers everywhere, and it sucked. They ate my entire garden, But my cats ate a few of them. So we were even. I also discovered if I plant only wild flowers(which I LOVE) they did'nt touch them. :D
