First bird photos

I'm just getting used to my 350D, and to the difficulties (and joys) of photographing birds, so I thought I would share some early efforts. following is a Brown Thornbill and an Eatern Yellow Robin. The Thornbill was shot at Mulligan's Flat and the Robin at the National Botanic Gardens (both locations are in Canberra Australia

Good effort for your first birds! I assume these are not full frame...if so, you don't need to crop them so tightly. It is more pleasing to the eye not to have the subject so close to the borders all around (especially around where the bird is looking into), plus you wouldn't lose so much detail and the noise would be less apparent.

Great looking species here and looking forward to more...

I like that second bird. It has that nice yellow colour and cute look to it.

It is sometimes hard to get a good focus on a bird hiding behind branches as the AF will sometimes lock onto something else. What I try and do is adjust the focus manually by moving the subject in and out of focus (to help it) but not easy to do when looking through the narrow viewfinder of the XT and if the bird is far away and thus small in the VF.

Beautiful shot of the thornbill, and the robin is quite nice in difficult light. I'd never heard of a yellow robin.
