thank you all for taking part

it was really good to see the entries
I loved and enjoyed all of them very much

picking a winner is always difficult but thought the one I picked had all the signs that todays living could express..... in many ways
all of the shots were interesting and showed a lot regards signs of the times.
thanks for that and for going to the trouble.
it's never as easy as it seems .....getting the shots
so 'thumbs up' to everyone :)

~ winners

# 1

Gewb
'1991 question 'what is a 'com'

it's an excellent picture showing colour modern style and attitude with those ' models' in the window
plus the www.chicos.com (external link)

all of that would never have been seen or heard of in 1991
I love the reflections also. showing modern people on the move
all in all very much a 'today' scene, makes it an overall winner
and congratulations for spotting it

# 2

Terrywoodenpic
'British Vandals 1. Police 0'

it's a terrific shot and capture Terry
I like it very much .
it shows a very strong message of what is happening in some places on occasions

# 3

rpolitsr

'signs of foreign affairs'

very good shot with a sign for the times certainly

over here TLC usually means 'tender loving care'
so I really appreciate your translation as regards it's meaning when I was connecting 'tender loving care' with OXY
:)

Bobby T
'we don't need no stinking operator'
:)

it's a great shot of the boys enjoying pleasures which were not always in existence
and as rules were made to be broken I would think the 'stop' sign made the trip even more exciting for those three

:)

Teekay
'tough times, even the boat is for sale'

I loved your colourful shot showing modern day type of market
so much going on and the flowers all around make a beautiful scene for the buyers
whether the boat sells or not
:)

Andrewaa5 .... calling 88

what did you do to the poor butterfly?
I'm afraid to ask was that really how it was

it's a beautiful shot of the butterfly itself and from what I can gather you took it with one hand, the butterfly perched on your other .
maybe it's not your hand
and maybe it is your wonderful artistic design which fulfilled the butterfly's dream (of having 88 painted on it's wing)
no matter, it's a lovely shot :)
ps
what does 88 mean
(oops)

:)

Boutty

'sign to tell date and time'

that certainly is an interesting picture
is it a modern sundial of sorts ?
I never saw one before

again, thank you all very much for taking part

Congratulations to Gewb and to you all

end

Challenge # 73 - 'Signs of the Times'

Signs (as in signposts) which show how things are changing fast around us.

it can be any zany signposts which would never have been seen years ago
maybe showing directions to some building or places new and different
signs which are modern and upbeat
even over shop fronts, places of entertainment etc

photographed and presented showing them at their very best
the design, the angle and the message

thank you very much

and good luck with the challenge

:)

Congratulations to Gewb, Terrywoodenpic & rpolitsr. Nice shoots all. Thanks Marie for hosting an interesting topic and judging duty.

I was quite amazed to have captured my sundial image last year near central Australia in Port Ausgusta. ;)

You are right. ‘Tender Loving Care’ will not apply to OXY :)

Congratulations gewb certainly .com is a sign of recent times. It is a clever idea and a beautiful picture. You wonderfully captured the reflections!

Congratulations Terrywoodenpic You got an interesting lighting and enhanced it with almost perfect exposition. The broken crystal outlined by its own edges looks great and the old dry white paint at the top contrast with the green grown in the bottom. One of the finest pictures I have seen lately.

Thanks for your preference, marie, I am honored. I thought that teekay’s hand written signs and beautiful colors or BobbyT’s STOP behind the kids (forgiving the odd size) deserved the third place.

Thank you also for hosting and judging and commenting.

Seven pictures are better than the four of the previous week, but still a small number of entries for another interesting subject.

Anybody has some ideas on how to keep the newcomers participating?
Can we motivate the former frequent posters to return to the challenges?

Perhaps many G series or Pro1 are now the spare cameras of new DSLR owners, but they are still beautiful cameras to work with.

Here we say “the grass looks greener in the neighbor ‘s garden”. I was envious of the Small Compact Digitals' challenge of this week.

It may be a healthy motivation to visit their Challenge #25 - Local History

Among other entries, enjoy tekay’s Mobile History shot with his A95

Do not forget to return to this thread and post your comment to enhance this challenge :)

Congratulations to everone who took part. Especially the winner.
Not every one wants to spend time on their computers this time of year.

As far as my picture goes I first took it on saturday afternoon but the spot is in the shade and you could not see the glass. so I went back in the evening when the sun was going down (9.20 pm) and there was a more interesting hint of sunlight. luckily it just enhanced the glass edges and gave some texture to the paint.

The small camera forum is doing very well and had some interesting shots.
It also shows that at the 640 size, differences in quality between the cameras becomes very slight and sharpness is more down to ability to enhance at that size in photoshop.

my thoughts about the forum are that we are losing some members as they get DSLR's, and very few are coming in as they don't make The G series any more.
Perhaps we should move to include cameras in this forum, that Canon at least, think has replaced the G series, even though they do not have all the attributes.

it is also summer (well, in northern hemisphere at least) and a lot of people are on hols and I know when the weather is like this, I do not want to be too close to a PC : ) Howerver, I work in IT, so it is hard for me to not be away from a PC : ) Terry, i think that picture is a great capture, albeit a bit sad that it could be vandalised in such a way. the kids today : (

mine of the butterfly was natural and no photoshop. It was taken in Foz Do Iguazu on the Argentina side. There was a lot all the same with what looks like '88' on their wings. I think the wings on butterflies are meant to resemble 'eyes' so that predators attack them, as opposed to the 'body' of the butterfly. These just look like Two fat ladies, Wobbly wobbly, All the eights [88]

Congrats to the winners. There were some great shots from everyone. I'm glad I didn't have to judge.

My pic was taken at a fund raising carnival for juvenile diabetes research. Those kids looked like they were having the time of their lives, squirt guns and a big bouncer.
