What kind of battery life can one see with a fully charged pack?

TIA,

Lynn

I've been getting about 800 shots before the 1st battery segment turns off. The flashing low battery light seems to come on relatively quickly after that (guessing less than 200 shots). This is with about 80/20 24-70mm/70-200mm IS use.

I haven't tested to see when the battery would go completely dead. I have noticed when I don't use the 70-200 IS I get better battery life (IS taking up more power). I have about 1000 shots now using only the 24-70 and the 1st battery segment hasn't turned off yet.

Presumably it depends on what format you're writing- RAW or JPG.

I've shot mostly JPG at several paintball events, and regularly get in excess of 3,000 frames on a charge. Original Canon battery, and using a 28-300 IS with IS left on and in mode 2. Some chimping, but preview is off and sleep mode after one minute.

The book says 1,200 on average, so I'm assuming the "discrepancy" is because I'm only writing JPG at compression setting 8. Presumably were I writing RAW+large JPG as most will with this camera, my mileage would be closer to the book figure.

Next up: 400/5.6 | 16-35 2.8 | 70-200 2.8 and maybe a 1.4 TC
Wishful thinking: 500/4.0

I started out shooting RAW+JPG but now shoot only RAW. I have preview on 2 sec. and sleep after 1 min.

I'll have to try shooting JPG only.

I turned the preview off and the battery just seems to last forever. I have 4 batteries total, and though it may seem like overkill now, I'm sure they'll all come in handy on long trips to places where power sources might be limited. One of the biggest selling points for me when I got the mkIIn was the battery life.

I'm using an aftermarket 1800mah battery shooting raw only. I have it set for a 4 sec. preview and sleeps at 8 minutes. I cycled it the other day after 2000 shots but the battery indicator onboard the camera had yet to come off of full.

I shoot mostly RAW and have IS on alot of my lenses. I shot this past weekend and got close to 1700 before I changed batteries and it wasn't indicating dead yet. I have the 1DMKII not the N series but I would assume they are close to the same with the N being better.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

Suggestion..........Glue your exposure comp to +1/3 to 1/2 over and you will nail it 95% of the time

Thanks Sean for that , we travel a lot to San Diego and I'm always shooting out of the Embassy Suites across from the Midway and looking at things in Nelson's camera shop.

I often hear this, but I don't find myself needing to do this. My mkIIn just doesn't seem to underexpose like everyone says. I leave my EC set at 0 and adjust accordingly.
