Hey friends,

should I get the Canon 60mm 2.8 macro or the 100mm 2.8 macro? If they are both 1X whats the difference other than the focusing distance. Pardon my ignorance on this one friends. I appreciate your help. :)

I had the 50mm 2.5 macro, but it was LOUD and slow. Is 1x going to make a big difference over .5x?

Yours Rian

Given the choice I would choose the 100mm.

Please proceed, Governor.

you do want to get the x1 at least. also, the main difference between the 60 and the 100 is the working distance which means ALOT when we are talking about macros. here is a good link that you should check out:

One minor comment is that most macroholics use manual focus so AF speed or noise is not normally an issue unless you use the same lens for other types of photography. Any of the lenses around 100mm are good (Tamron 90, canon 100, sigma 105)

yeah yeah i have been hearing great things about the 100mm lens, but I have been attracted the 60mm because I can use him as a portrait lens as well

you would be better off getting the 100 and getting one of the 50mm (1.8 or 1.4) for the portraits stuff..

60EFS is a brilliant macro/portrait lens and makes for a light setup in the field - good for hand held work. The 100 though will give you a bit more working distance - useful for fluttery butterflies.
