I was thinking about locations that I use for on site photography and wanted to know what other photogs look for in good on site locations to use for shoots. What do you look for? How do you decide where to start looking? etc.

it depends on what you're looking for.. a park is generally a pretty safe bet. Just make sure your subjects know not to wear green.. a lot of my inspiration comes from shooting places by myself.. i'll see an interesting church or part of town and file it away as a potential spot for portraits... I do try to look for areas that I think will go with the person's personality... a grafiti wall may look fabulous for one subject but terrible for another.. My advice would be to take yourself on a walk with camera in hand.. when you see something you like take a picture so you'll remember it later...and keep your eyes open.. I've found great spots in the most unlikely of places, and used areas I felt would only work for landscapes with great success for portraits..
