And why?

I love Lee Friedlander b/c of his blending of tight composition and poignant subject matter. I love Robert Frank for taking so many artistic risks and continuing to make art in the face of tragedy. I love Cindy Sherman for her strong conceptual mind.

And you?

Love Jeff Wall also. I just saw a tape of him lecturing about his work. He's amazing. So intelligent.

Lucien Clerque.

Lucien Clerque first discovered the power of the camera in his difficult adolescence. He witnessed the destruction of his family's house by WWII bombs, and suffered the prolonged illness and death of his mother. He has spent much of his career taking photos that express loss, death and decay...

I love Gipsy Kings and I just found out that his works are on the cover of Gipsy's cd's.

Patrick Demarchelier...love the emotions he captures of the people he photographs.

Galen Rowell...his landscapes are amazing, always have great colors. (won't hold it against him that he is not a canon user) www.mountainlight.com (external link)

Craig Stevens...he is an awe-inspiring b&w printer and his portfolio is amazing. www.craigstevens.net (external link)

And on Manitas de Plata's albums (Psst Sophia check him out).
Elliot Erwitt is good and a nice man as well. It is always good when the person in a decent human. I like David Vestal as well another outstanding person and great teacher, very clear. I like simple straight forward photography. It is not always so simple to produce but it speaks directly to you.

Did a search on Vestal. I liked his work. Did you take a class with him?

I enjoyed looking at Elliot Erwitt's work... thanks for the recommendation, Quad.

Two of my favorites are Doug Beasley, for his excellent capture of substance and his presentation, and Diane D. Miller, who makes even plants and flora look brilliant.

No I followed his books and used them as texts whenever I taught photography lab work. One day I decided to write him and ask him a question. He and I corresponded for a couple of years and sent a few photos back and forth. A very generous man.

Dragan's work is pretty good.

The only photographer I'm really a big fan of that I follow is David LaChapelle. Otherwise I just buy alot of fashion magazines and look at the photos regardless of who took them. I'm big on Steve Mcurry's work too I suppose, but that's more or less the extent of it

Art Wolfe. Met him once at the Las Vegas airport. He takes some stunning nature photos.
