you can get a split prism focusing screen, I've thought about it and I might still if the EF-D screen isn't as good as I'm hoping it is once it gets here

or you could get a live view model - manual focusing is pretty simple (for non moving subjects with tripod)

Plus that lens is like 7 times as expensive as the nifty.

and its not as sharp either!!
