I've had a few pics in low light recently where the focus missed entirely (fairly certain it wasn't user error for a change!)

However, when it's on focus you can get some incredibly sharp images. I took this one at the weekend, we were messing around trying to bounce the flash and came up with a very quick and cheap hack.

We ripped up a white envelope, bent it so it was curling upwards and stuck it near where the on-board flash lives.

This was very sharp even at 100%, here it is reduced down to 1200*800:

Pic is of my friend Stu - I'll have to tell him to smile next time :)

I will but I warn you it's not pretty and it's not clever... it will probably have people laugh at you if you try to use it. It's just a piece of paper inspired by http://abetterbouncecard.com/ (external link)

Who cares, it's fun to experiment and the images came out way better than not having one :)

Here is one that I took a month or so ago. All I have really done to it was desaturate it.

Just got home and took a quick picture of something random:

Resized and sharpened just a tad in photoshop.
If I had a tripod it'd look a bit less blurry on the focus.

The little bit of white spots are all dust particles. I don't clean my room much :D

i was playing with my 50mm last evening, it was very dim indoors, only a little light coming in windows and one small fluoro bulb on a lamp
it didnt hunt very much and seemed to find a focus point even on dark objects like a black cat
however, the low light IQ is not very good, somewhat fuzzy and grainy at 100% (on 40D at 800ISO). did not perform as well as my 17-55 f/2.8
this is really a daylight/bright light lens, in spite of the f/1.8
