I've bought and sold this lens several times. I just bought it again.

I think the softness at f1.8 problem is a bit overstated. It is actually very sharp in the middle right from wide open. I think this lens just requires some patience and experience to get the most out of it.

I purchased the inexpensive, 50mm lens myself a few months ago. Although it is mostly plastic, I love the optics... especially for just under $100 brand-new. For the money, I really couldn't pass on the clarity and sharpness of the lens.
