My better half has bought me the nifty for my birthday tomorrow. She wont let me road test it until tomorrow though, so, after weeks of mooching through this thread I'll hopefully have something to add to it myself pretty soon.......

Any ideas as to why this lens would be a noticeable amount out of focus when auto focusing using a 450D, but seems perfectly fine on my 50D?

Not a clue, i went out this evening for a walk and took these with the 50m auto focus but everything else was set to manual on the camera:

Camera: Canon EOS 450D griped, 18-55mm, 55-250mm, 50mm f1.8, Canon Skylight & hoods fitted, Canon 430 ExII, SanDisk Extreme III 4GB, Sony GPS-CS1
Computer:  mac mini, aperture 3

Performs well in low light conditions, hand held, sure 1.4 would be better, but I can’t justify huge price difference as long as I’m not paid for taking of pictures.
