Love this lens! My focusing ring is a little sticky but the results of this lens are fantastic.

What does Bokeh stand for? Is it a acronym? Thanks. Total noob here. Trying to decide whether to get this lens or a decent tripod.

Nevermind. I did a quick google.

Bokeh: The blur or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image, or "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light

Although it misses focus sometimes in good light, and often in low light, i still love it. :)

Is it necessary to protect nifty fifty with UV filter? Who has it?

I you mean protect the glass from cracking, no, it's not necessary (in my opinion). The front element is recessed almost half an inch inside the front of the lens.

i would recommend a UV filter on all of your glass regardless of cost. :D I bought a used one for under five bucks and serves its purpose well, protect the glass.

Just receive my Nifty Fifty today. Here is a sample shot of my daughter. The focus point is on her nose. I think it is sharp but not sharp enough. I like to hear your opinion.

Wouldn't a UV for under $5 ruin the shots?!?

I have $40-$50 UV filters on my other lenses, and have taken test shots with/without the filters and noticed no difference. But I question a $5 filter though? Maybe I am wrong, I am just guessing...

I don't have a UV on my 50 1.8, as the lens is so cheap already, I didn't see the point - and as mentioned, the glass is set back a fair bit.
