Wouldn't a UV for under $5 ruin the shots?!?

I have $40-$50 UV filters on my other lenses, and have taken test shots with/without the filters and noticed no difference. But I question a $5 filter though? Maybe I am wrong, I am just guessing...

I don't have a UV on my 50 1.8, as the lens is so cheap already, I didn't see the point - and as mentioned, the glass is set back a fair bit.

my 5 dollar UV filter glass is really nice actually, scored quite a deal on a used one. I've noticed no difference in image quality.

I've also got a cheapo filter on my nifty fifty, it's a Green-L UV that's up for $2.48 on ebay now. I've noticed no difference in color tint or sharpness.

Just receive my Nifty Fifty today. Here is a sample shot of my daughter. The focus point is on her nose. I think it is sharp but not sharp enough. I like to hear your opinion.
Canon 7D
Mode: Av
tv: 1/60
av:1.8
iso: 500 (auto)
WB: auto (no flash)

1/60 shutter for a bouncing around little one is asking for trouble, I would have gone for something like 1/100 or more, crank the ISO up a bit

Thanks Suicidn.

For the book pic, 580exII mounted on camera and bounced off ceiling + 430EXII behind a thick black sheet, so that only a 1/4th of the flash is visible. Increased contrast/highlight/sharpness in DPP. Crop. Apply cross process preset in lightroom.

For the flower pic, natural light. same changes as book pic in DPP. Crop. Applied COL COLOR INFRARED preset in lightroom to make it look different.
